Colorado Statewide Health Initiatives

Blue Ribbon Commission for Health Care Reform.  In the 2006 Colorado legislative session, Senate Bill 06-208 was enacted.  The law created a Blue Ribbon Commission for Health Care Reform for the purpose of studying and establishing health care reform models to expand health care coverage and to decrease health care costs for Colorado residents.

Connecting Colorado: Overcoming the Disconnects that Lead to Health Disparities. 2007. Reducing health disparities means overcoming breakdowns in communication, understanding, and information among health stakeholders. This policy brief explores opportunities for better system-wide communication and integration, with recommendations for health consumers, community-based healthcare providers, health agencies, funders, and policymakers. Recent Events

2006 Colorado Health Disparities Conference.  This multi-purpose conference included the yearly Culture of Data Conference, the yearly Health Disparities Conference, and a one-time Mental Health Disparities Summit.

Publications

Brochure about the Interagency Health Disparities Leadership Council.  An informational brochure for distribution to policy makers. 

Mental Health Disparities in Colorado.  The policy brief addresses the need for the provision of quality mental health care for individuals from all racial and ethnic backgrounds. Based on an extensive literature review, input from community members and an advisory group comprised of Colorado community mental health leaders, as well as input from participants in the 2006 Colorado Mental Health Disparities Summit, the Brief sets forth policy recommendations to strengthen care. 

Racial and Ethnic Disparities in the State of Colorado 2005.  A surveillance report about the population differences in health outcomes, this document also explores the causes of these health disparities. 

Additional Resources

Colorado Health Institute.  The Colorado Health Institute was created in 2002 to advance the overall health of the people of Colorado by serving as an independent and impartial source of reliable and relevant health-related information for sound decision-making.  It acts as an information clearinghouse, conducts original research and analysis, and disseminates information on key health issues to stakeholders.
